we work
The The George E. Brown United States / Mexico Foundation For Science (FUMEC) is a charitable organization created in 1992 with the intention of promoting and supporting collaboration in science and technology as well as economic and social development based on innovation between the United States and Mexico. It is a unique organization with branches in both countries: a 501c3 non-profit organization in the United States and a civil association, Fundación México-Estados Unidos para la Ciencia (FUMEC) in Mexico.
The two foundations work together to pursue the shared goal of promoting bi-national cooperation to find solutions to problems of common interest, especially those that support economic and social development of the two counties. At the same time, each branch pursues its own domestic projects and programs. Through its national and international networks, the Foundation facilitates the identification and adoption of models that can drive innovation in entrepreneurs, companies and ecosystems. This line of action has allowed FUMEC/USMFS to be pioneers in mechanisms such as international acceleration processes, agile entrepreneurship and participatory planning for the development of regional innovation ecosystems throughout US and Mexico.
The Foundation has a diverse portfolio of projects all with the shared goal of promoting social and economic development in those regions where it operates through education, entrepreneurial support and business development. Over the years, the Foundation has built cross-border networks of key players in industry, academia and the public sector. These leaders have deep knowledge of the ways that collaboration across U.S. and Mexican science, technology, economic and government ecosystems achieve outstanding results.
The Foundation acts as an expert agency in anticipating technological, innovation and market trends that allow it to promote the development of cutting-edge business and educational programs, build value chain integration strategies in highly specialized sectors, collaborate in the development and the improvement of the quality of life in rural and highly marginalized communities. It also acts as fiduciary agent for sustainable development projects related to epidemiological surveillance and environmental health issues
